"Passo Forca Rossa", or simply "Forca Rossa", was considered a very
important strategic point during World War I. On the first day of the war
the Alpine Regiment "Val Cordevole" occupied it, so as to have a complete
control over the area. The great importance of this pass emerges clearly
when considering that it is the main means of communications between Malga
Ciapela and "Passo San Pellegrino". The walk starts from Malga Ciapela and
goes in the direction of "Campin", across "Pian Grant" ; park the car at the
bridge that crosses "Ru Scalon". From here onwards you will follow the
military bridle track for "Rifugio Falier"; after a few hair pin bends you
will get to a road fork and here will turn left. A slow climb along some
bends will eventually get you to the beautiful "Valle di Franzedas", on it's
left-hand side there is a "malga" (alpine hut that functions as a dairy and
houses the herdsman). A steep foot path goes up the valley. Right in front
of you, high above, it is possible to get a glimpse of "Forca Rossa" wedged
between "Col Becher" (2444 m) and "Piz Le Crane" (2760 m).The left hand side
of the valley is closed in by the "Auta" mountain range. Having walked up
the grassy basin, you will leave the foot path n. 689 that leads to "Passo
di Col Becher" and will continue on the track n. 694 which in a short time
will get you to "Forca Rossa" on a wide bridle track. |
